Dates

We run classes almost every weekend from April through to September alternating between Basic and Returning Rider classes. A schedule of available class dates and the seats remaining within each one are listed at the bottom of this page and in the calendar section of our website.

Availability

Seats are limited to 6 students per class. Seats are first come first serve. All requirements MUST be met before your seat is guaranteed to you. We must continue to fill classes with students who are able to provide these requirements immediately.

Requirements

• A copy of your valid Driver's License - Needed at time of registration in order for us to accurately file paperwork.
• Full Payment - Needed at time of registration. We accept cash, check, and all major credit cards.
• Working e-mail address - An email address is required for both the basic and returning rider courses as it is our main form of communication for registration confirmations and where we send your log in and temporary password to get into the eCourse.
• Parental waiver form signed (minors only) - Applicants under 18 years old may take the Basic Rider course as long as they have a valid level 2 license or higher. All minors are required to register in-store and MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parents, please be prepared to present your driver's license and take the time to fill out a few forms.

  Visit us at the dealership during business hours and you can fill out a Registration Form and pay in store with any major credit/debit card, cash or check.

  Hours: Monday - Friday from 9 AM - 6 PM, and Saturdays from 9 AM - 4 PM.

Basic RiderCourse

Saturday & Sunday: 8 AM - 5 PM / Class Fee: $349

The MSF Basic Rider Course is designed for beginning riders of all ages. More than 7 million motorcyclists nationwide have graduated from a Rider Course since 1974. Overall, the Basic Rider Course teaches the basic mental and physical skills needed for riding. The course is composed of eight to ten hours of classroom-style instruction (Including the Basic eCourse that you complete at home) Followed by ten hours of hands-on riding exercises in a controlled, off-street environment. In the classroom, you'll learn about the different types of motorcycles, layout and operation of the basic controls, and how to become a safer, more responsible rider. You'll then move to the riding range where your MSF-certified Rider Coach will guide you through the basic skills of straight-line riding, low-speed maneuvering such as stopping, shifting, and turning, then gradually progressing to swerving and emergency braking.

The course concludes with a written knowledge test and a hands-on riding skill evaluation. The State of Michigan will provide a waiver certificate for the written and riding evaluation tests that are typically required at the Secretary of State (may vary by state).

Once you complete our class, you can be happy to know that you've gone the extra mile to develop safe riding techniques. Another benefit to taking the Rider Course, besides learning these important skills and strategies, is that some auto insurance companies provide an insurance discount for completing a safety course-So be sure to ask your agent what they offer!

Pre-requisites

• Able to balance and ride a bicycle.
• Possess either a driver's license or motorcycle learner's permit.
• Be 16⁺ years old.

What to expect

• 2-4 hours of online classroom work to be completed prior to class (Basic MSF eCourse).
• 15-hours of instruction (5 hours in the classroom/10 hours riding).
• You’ll be with the same group for the duration of your training.
• You’ll receive individual RiderCoach feedback while learning to ride.
• Types and/or models of motorcycles available vary. Ask your RiderCoach which training bike is best for you based on your height, weight or preferred riding style.  (If you have difficulty maneuvering your bike, ask your coach if you can switch to a different type of motorcycle.)

Returning RiderCourse

Sunday: 8 AM - 5 PM / Class Fee: $224 or $249 w/Rental Bike

The MSF Returning RiderCourse (RRC) is designed for riders over 18 years and older who have recent street experience and are comfortable on a motorcycle. The course is built for unlicensed motorcyclists to help speed them through the endorsement process while also giving them hands-on training from an MSF-certified coach. Coaches will cover good techniques and safe practices for before, during and after your ride. The 3-hour classroom portion will have some review and will include your written test, followed by 5½ hours of hands-on riding exercises in a controlled, off-street environment. This portion will include your riding evaluation test. Once the course is complete, the State of Michigan will provide a waiver certificate for the written and riding evaluation tests that are typically required at the Secretary of State (may vary by state).

• Knowledge of basic motorcycle road regulations and some street experience.
• Possess either a valid driver's license or valid motorcycle learner's permit.
• Be 18⁺ years old.

What to expect

• 2-4 hours of online classroom work to be completed prior to class (Street Strategies MFS eCourse).
• 8.5-hours of instruction (3 hours in the classroom/5.5 hours riding).
• You’ll be with the same group for the duration of your training.
• You’ll receive individual RiderCoach feedback while learning to ride.
• Motorcycles are not included in the original course fee.
• Rental bikes are available for $25.  Motorcycles available are all 250cc or less. Types and models available will vary. If you bring your own motorcycle we strongly suggest a machine less than 600cc.

• Over-the-ankle boots (no sneakers)

• Something to eat & drink for lunch (you might not be able to leave the range for allotted lunch time)
• Valid Motorcycle Registration AND Proof of Insurance for the motorcycle you bring to class. (RRC only)

MSF eCourse

Required for both Basic & Returning Rider Course / $19.99 eCourse cost is included as part of our private program pricing.

The MSF Basic eCourse serves as an introductory check for anyone interested in riding a motorcycle. It helps you determine whether motorcycling is right for you. It is a prerequisite for the MSF hands-on RiderCourses, but can also be completed as a stand-alone program for those who are just curious or as review for those who intend on taking a non-MSF riding course.

The eCourse is an interactive 3-hour online program that provides riders of all skill levels with the basics of motorcycling. It includes integrated graphics, photos, video, and quizzes which tailors to a variety of learning styles and allows you to control the pace of your learning. A “save progress” feature makes it easy to start and stop your lesson on your own time.

Upon completion of the MSF eCourse, you will be able to print a completion certificate that is valid for 30 days. If you are taking the hands-on RiderCourse please ensure that your first day of class isn’t scheduled to begin after your certificate’s expiration date. If you completed your eCourse more than 30 days before your class start date, you will be required to re-take the eCourse. You can retake the course at no additional cost by logging in again and checking the "Start new attempt" checkbox.

*Please note that the Basic eCourse itself is NOT accepted as a license waiver by any state's department of motor vehicles- nor is it a motorcycle endorsement or learner’s permit to ride.

Cancellations/Refunds

Reservation cancellations must be made a minimum of 72 hours in advance of class in order to receive any refund. There will be a $100 cancellation fee. Any cancellations made less than 72 hours to class will not receive a refund.

Please allow 7-10 days for refunds to be processed.
